After a period of about eight years, when the the Children’s Train in “Prostor” Park was not functioning, it is now once again open to the children of Kardzhali. One of the oldest symbols of Kardzhali has been brough to life again.  

In this way we succeeded in keeping our promise, given two year ago, to the youngest ones in the Municipality, namely, to restore this unique town attraction. In year 2005, BGN 78 000 were spent on repair works on the tunnel. The local “Gorubso” company undertook the restoration of the locomotive and the coaches, and also provided new seats.  

Whereas, the little artists from the painting centre at the medical nursery centre painted their dreams on the coaches. “Road Maintenance” company carried out the rehabilitation of the rails and on 4th August Children’s train welcomed its first passengers.

The children’s railway is the first of its kind in the whole country. It was opened in 1962. It is 1 210 m long and about 300 m longer than the one in the city of Plovdiv.
