The table above is designed in accordance with the data provided by TSB in the town of Kardzhali for each particular year. Then it also should be noted that the sums down the columns do not correspond to the first row in the table. The structure of the land is presented graphically in the figure below:

The ratio of the cultivated land has been increasing by 1.0 % per year. It is presumed that, this happens because people turn their steps to agriculture and plough new land up.
In the year 1991, cultivated land was 108 thousand decares, and the population – 114 413 people. In that case, it is obvious that there existed 0.94 decares land per capita. In the year 1998, cultivated land was 115 thousand decares and the population was 76 509 people, or 1.50 decares per capita . The average cultivated land per capita has increased: 1.5 : 0.94 = 1.6 times.
The rate of field areas increased by 20 %. In the year 1991, there was : 83 000 : 114 413 = 0.73 decares per capita , and in the year 1998, there was 1.31 decares per capita or the increase is: 13.31 : 0.73 - 1.79 times .
These two ratios give us a reason to state that population pays significant attention to farming, but on the other hand, it has to be noted that population has decreased by 33.13 % for the same period of time, in other words the main increase of the cultivated land and field indicators per each inhabitant are mainly determined by the decrease of the population in the municipality.
Field shares increased from 39.4 % to 51.3 % of the whole cultivated land. The increase in the shares of the fields is associated with the development of private farming and above all, it is associated with the development of personal satisfaction of needs, as a result of the increased unemployment rate in the municipality
Land areas with perennial crops decreased from 11 to 7 thousand decares, and in this case the decrease is 36.4 %.
The decrease of land areas that consist of natural meadows is 50 %, in other words, the decrease is from 14 to 7 thousand decares.
The other categories of land decreased from 154 to 107 thousand decares, namely the decrease is with 30-5 %.
Kardzhali Municipality`s Municipal Land Fund is distributed among the land of 13 settlements and its size is 2086 decares.

There exists a tendency towards increase of field share in the overall structure of the land. Together with this, there appears a decrease in the land of stock-breeding and perennial plants. This gives us a reason to state that land use is orientated towards practicing monocultural agriculture, as a result of which population becomes extremely dependent on market and meteorological circumstances.
